The servants of Fultadig, the lord of corruption, bred addle-flies for the twin purposes of spreading disease and transforming cadavers into undead.
Each addle-fly in a swarm resembles a bloated bluebottle, swollen to the size of a mouse. Their compound eyes, ocelli and antennae are large and overdeveloped, allowing them to pinpoint the location of a ripe cadaver within two hundred feet, while their proboscises are atrophied to the point of non-existence. Addle-flies only eat in their larval stage, and can survive for a week on stored food reserves. All addle-flies are hermaphrodite, self-fertilising, and are ready to lay eggs at any given time. The strain of flight, eating several times their body weight and near-constant egg-laying takes a constant strain on addle-flies’ bodies; they drop dead of exhaustion within a few days.
Addle-flies do not speak.
Combat
Addle-flies fight with little regard for their safety, and are repelled only by fire or high wind.
Create Spawn (Su): Addle-flies lay their eggs in humanoid cadavers, causing them to animate as addle-wraths. The flies lay their eggs in any creatures killed by the swarm attack.
Disease (Su): Addle fever—swarm attack, Fortitude DC 13, incubation period 1d3 days, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Wis. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Distraction (Ex): Any living creature that begins its turn with a swarm of addle-flies in its space must succeed on a DC 13 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.
